Pelvic Pain
Pelvic pain is a common symptom that can affect women at any stage of life. It refers to discomfort felt in the lower abdomen, and it can have many different causes. Some of these will be related to reproductive health, while others will be linked to the bladder, bowel, or the musculoskeletal system.
Although it’s often not serious, pelvic pain can have a real impact on your daily life and wellbeing. The nature of the pain, whether it’s sharp or dull, constant or occasional, or related to your periods, sexual intercourse, or bowel movements, can give us a useful guide towards the underlying cause.
Common causes include endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease, urinary tract infections, or irritable bowel syndrome. Most of these causes are manageable with treatment, and only rarely is pelvic pain a sign of a gynaecological cancer.
You should never feel you have to put up with pelvic pain – it’s important to talk to a healthcare professional. We’ll give you the time and space you need to explain your symptoms. Only by listening carefully can we make sure the right investigations are carried out and the cause identified.
We’ll always do our best to give you the support and care you need to find relief and reassurance.
