Adeola Olaitan

Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist FRCOG

I qualified as a doctor from University College Hospital London in 1987. After completing my specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology, I undertook a subspecialty Fellowship in gynaecological oncology at St Michael's Hospital, Bristol, where I developed advanced expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological cancers.

I hold a private practice at The Wellington Hospital’s Platinum Medical Centre in London and The Harley Street Clinic, both part of HCA Healthcare UK. I’ve also been a consultant gynaecological oncologist at University College Hospital London since 2002, and have served as the clinical lead of the Gynaecological Cancer Centre at UCLH.

My expertise lies in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers affecting women, including ovarian, uterine, (endometrial), cervical and vulval cancer. I am dedicated to ensuring my patients get the most effective treatment possible and, where appropriate, use minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic and robotic surgery to ensure minimal scarring, less pain and a faster recovery.

Beyond oncology, I also see patients with general gynaecological concerns, including heavy periods, irregular bleeding, and pelvic pain. I specialise in minimally invasive procedures to treat polyps, ovarian cysts, and other benign conditions, and I’m accredited in colposcopy for patients with abnormal smear results.

In my private practice, I provide routine gynaecological care, including cervical screening (smear tests), Mirena coil insertion (with sedation if required), HPV testing, and HPV vaccination (Gardasil 9).

I’m passionate about teaching and helping to advance knowledge in gynaecological oncology and currently position of honorary associate professor at UCL. I have contributed to over 60 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, helping to shape best practices in the field.

I have received several prizes and awards at each stage of my career, recognising my dedication to clinical excellence:

  • CURA-H lifetime achievement award nominee 2024
  • Physician of the year (diaspora) award nominee 2023
  • Simms Black Visiting Professor RCOG, August 2019
  • UCL Global Award July 2019
  • Inspiring Teacher Award SPROGS, UK 2017
  • Academic Excellence Award UCL 2006
  • Bernhard Baron Travelling Fellowship RCOG London, 2006
